The Best Organic Diapers

New Mamas have so many questions when it comes to what to buy for baby. Buying diapers can be confusing because there are so many brands and a wide range of prices. We are a pretty health conscious and frugal family and feel it's important to help inform others. I've put together a little list to help you decide the best diaper for you and your little one's tushy! I'm linking them to amazon so you can compare prices (I would list the price, but they are always changing). Check out amazon's "subscribe & save" and get 30% off the list price and free 2 day shipping!!!

To quickly sum up my opinion, I would vote Nature Babycare Diapers as the best healthy diaper for babies. They are super absorbent and don't use harmful chemicals in their diapers or packaging which means both your baby and the environment are being protected! This list of diapers are ones I've used for my boys:

Nature Babycare  -

  • 100% chlorine & GM free
  • Based on biodegradable materials with a biodegradable back sheet
  • Use cornstarch and other natural ingredients wherever possible.
  • Consist of chlorine free pulp to help with absorption, a backsheet and distribution center based on corn, as well as chlorine free cellulose in the diaper.
  • To further improve the absorption of our diapers we use a small amount of SAP. No latex.
Next to cloth diapers, I think these are the "healthiest" diapers. The only negative is that they are a bit stiff compared to others, but still work great!

Seventh Generation

  • Free of Chlorine Processing
  • Free of Fragrances & Latex
  • Free of Petroleum Based Lotions
  • Hypoallergenic
Ingredients include: chlorine free wood pulp fluff, sodium polyacrylate (also referred to as SAP or absorbent gel), polyolefin nonwoven fabric, adhesives, polyolefin film, synthetic rubber elastic strands
Materials are mostly petroleum-derived and are not renewable

Earth's Best

  • Made from non-chlorine bleached materials
  • Contains natural absorbent material such as corn and wheat
  • Made with fewer petro-chemicals
  • Breathable sides
  • Moisture barrier cuff
  • Re-fastenable tabs
  • Latex-free, dye-free, perfume-free

Huggies Pure & Natural

  • Organic cotton outside
  • Hypoallergenic, with a touch of Aloe and Vitamin E
  • Liner includes renewable materials
I have to applaud Huggies for at least "trying" to make a healthy diaper.

Pampers Swaddlers

Soft and Absorbent! Healthy... I don't think so...THEREFORE NO LINK!

The best organic diapers are generally cost prohibitive, but we think it's something well worth the money. Our children's health is our priority as parents and we hope you feel the same. Next time you are looking for the best organic diapers check the ingredients!!

Fish Oil During Pregnancy

Upon my first few laps around Google's brilliant suggestions for "benefits of fish oil during pregnancy," I promptly developed an unpointed intrigue for the obvious.

Mom's across America traditionally pass on an instruction to their children: Eat your brain food! This seemingly mommy fabricated command has more to it than, "because I said so!"

Fish is infamous for smelling terrible, but it is also very well recognized as a "Facebook default picture worthy" representative for brain food. Many people pass on what their mom's once declared be true about the little scaly guys, but without any more to offer than what their parent told them. It is important to explore the miracles that fish products can perform, especially for ALMOST parents.

Why, might you ask?
*Fish oil carries fatty acids that will credibly influence child development even as early as the baby's last few months in the womb. This enhanced development commonly affects the fetus's central nervous system. Ultimately, you Mums-to-be should anticipate a stronger tuning in baby's overall sense of coordination and comprehension, even more rapid growth in the first 6 months, and a significantly lower chance of developing type 1 diabetes in the future.

For those who weren't completely enthralled by the effects of this stuff on your child, I have a few cherries to put on top for you personally:
* reduces post-natal depression
* reduces high blood pressure
* nutritionally healthy
^the cherries

(Google does not provide a sufficient amount of support that Omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil make your baby any cuter than without it)

Healthy Options in a Digital World

One of the biggest hang ups in life is determining what's best for my children in terms of eating and their lifestyle. My husband and I are big into healthy eating, but lately even bigger into protecting our children through lifestyle changes.

If you've never taken the time to really look around you to see what could be harming you in your home, you're probably like everyone else out there. My goal as a mom was to research certain environmental causes that could affect my children now and in the future. To do this I had to step back and decide what sacrifices I was willing to make. It may sound crazy, but there are plenty of everyday things that could really help out your child's health.

Recently we learned that RF (radio frequency) and the many technologies that go with that may actually have a negative impact on our health. The fact that many of these technologies have yet to be studied leads me to believe there are some potential dangers lurking. I am always one to take a step in a proactive direction to eliminate potential health risks, so as a family we've been trying to focus on what may or may not be healthy within our home. Many of you may say I'm crazy, but if I hear that another one of my friends has cancer I will probably lose my mind. It's not uncommon to have 5 or 6 friends with cancer, but when you are in your 20's and 30's it is. These days it just become way to common and I believe there is more to the story than just a population increase.

So the daily battle of the internet and cell phone have been slowly diminishing in my household.  In fact we completely turn the phones and WIFI off at night. When in our cars we like to make sure our phones are on airplane mode and we definitely don't let the kids even touch our cell phones and we keep them away from our computers. So you may think we are a crazy bunch, but truthfully we just prefer to be as safe as possible with our little ones as they truly are our life!

Many people chose to think if our government says it's ok then we should be fine. Always remember that a major study takes many years and the mere fact that a cell phone has barely been around for 15-20 years makes me think that we've got some things to learn.

Here is an article that was posted on Yahoo a few months back that you might find interesting:

My boys

We did a little impromptu photo shoot on our bed and I got all my blue eyed boys to look at the camera... at the same time! I love how Colton's top tooth is showing, while the others are still cutting.

Colton has 5 teeth and is cutting his 6th! He raises his arms when he wants to be picked up and waves hi & bye at people. He is sitting all on his own and will reach with all his might for a toy. He's pretty strong and will hold heavy toys and water bottles. I took this picture at the park a couple days ago. He LOVES the swing and I LOVE his smile and laughs.

Brayden has regressed in potty training. He is very content to pee and poop on himself and walk around wet without a care in the world. I switched up the treat and started bribing him with gummy bears. It's been working today, but we'll see how long it lasts. I took this picture of him with his "Bubba" or lovey. He loves having it with him for nap/bed time. It will defiantly be a keepsake for him.

It is so hard to get pictures of the boys together, but I tried and this is what turned out : ) I love pictures!
